Beginning Nov. 1, five state parks are opening some of their cabins and lodges to people traveling with dogs or cats. It’s part of a Department of Natural Resources attempt to respond to campers’ requests that more spaces allow companion animals.
Currently, leashed pets are allowed in campsites, but cannot accompany people who stay in a state park’s cabins, lodges, teepees or yurts.
As of this fall, up to two dogs or cats will be allowed in some cabins or lodges at the following: Harrisville State Park, Sleepy Hollow State Park, Lime Island State Park, Leelanau State Park and Cheboygan State Park.
