HORRENDOUS! Memphis Police Track Disturbing New Dog Fighting Trend – “Trunking”

The next time you hear loud music from the car next to yours, pay attention. According to Memphis Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Karen Rudolph, the people inside may be committing a crime other than violating a noise ordinance. “There could be a cover up for dog fighting, which is called ‘trunking.’”

Trunking is not the typical dog fighting that often makes headlines and results in arrests. It’s a new and disturbing trend.

“Apparently what they’re doing is they’re taking two dogs they’re putting them in the trunk of the car,” Rudolph said.

Suspects may leave the car parked or drive around with the music up very loud. They let the dogs fight until one of them is dead, and then pop open the trunk and declare a winner.

“It’s really scary, and it’s usually younger kids,” said John Robinson of the Memphis/Shelby County Humane Society. “It’s people just popping up and doing things like that, but that is becoming more and more popular.”

Memphis police have been training officers on trunking since it came to their attention about a year ago. But often, it’s difficult for the public to know it is happening.

“It’s very challenging for officers and also citizens to even know that it’s going on,” Rudolph said.

Police want dog fighters to know officers are being trained on trunking, and they’ll be watching and listening. Rudolph said anyone considering committing this animal cruelty crime should know that trunking is a felony, just like any other kind of dog fighting.

“Any dog fighting will be handled the same way,” she said. “Just because they’re in the trunk it doesn’t stop it.”

It is time to increase the penalties for animal cruelty, and this is a great place to start. If anyone is capable of doing this to a ‘feeling’ being without any sense of compassion or empathy, it is time to test if that person is capable of feeling anything and if not is a menace to society. Who is the next victim? A child?

  2. This is just sick. I am so tired of people using animals to feel their evil within themselves. These people need to be delt with in the severest fashion. Let them know we will NOT tolerate this…

  3. Lisa Hayton says:

Make it a crime to disturb the peace by playing your music too loudly. Then there will be no cover up of the crime….what kind of human being would do this to an innocent animal??? Shame!

  4. Joan says:

Don’t these scum of the earth have anything better to do than to kill innocent animals? I think we should start executing the bastards! They’re only going to be troublemakers-in and out of jail all their lousy lives while taxpayers have to see tax money keep the creeps alive! One offense and the future serial killers are outta here! Permanently!

  5. Lynne Gordon says:

This is so unbelievably disturbing… it is beyond words! Who raises children who do these things?

  6. Bianca says:

This is repulsive. What is wrong with people? When will this ever end? Animals are not ours to abuse or use as a sick form of entertainment, they are to be loved and treated with respect….much more respect than most humans deserve.

  7. I say catch the creeps that are doing this, toss them into a trunk with a running chainsaw and see if they survive. If they do then chain them to the car and drag them a few miles. Maybe then they will ‘get it’. People who do this can not be ‘taught’ that it is wrong. They are sick deviant individuals. They should be euthanized…. save the tax payers a lot of money.. Money that could be spent to rescue & save the victims of animal abuse!

  8. karen says:

The only way to stop this is to make harsher penalties period. But our fateful government will not do a darn thing, because there’s no money in it for them. They never really help what’s in need.
